The Rig Rundown

A bespoke site for a Belfast podcast covering Northern Ireland's heavy music scene. Custom built with Astro and deployed on Cloudflare Pages, with an SEO strategy built in from the first commit rather than bolted on afterwards.

All projects

The Rig Rundown is a podcast that sits down with local metal bands and touring acts to talk gear, graft and the noise behind the noise. The site is its home: episode archive, show notes, and the front door for anyone finding the podcast through search.

  • My role: Sole designer and developer, from the brand treatment through to the deploy pipeline.
  • Custom built: No template and no page builder. The layout, the type, the amp-cabinet artwork and the components are all bespoke to this show.
  • Technologies: Astro, TypeScript, HTML5 & CSS3, Cloudflare Pages, Cloudflare CDN.
  • Performance: Astro ships static HTML with almost no client-side JavaScript, and Cloudflare Pages serves it from edge locations worldwide, so the site is effectively instant wherever a listener opens it.
  • SEO: Semantic markup, per-page metadata, Open Graph and Twitter cards, PodcastEpisode structured data, a generated sitemap and canonical URLs, so episodes surface in search rather than living only on YouTube.
  • Impact: Gives an independent podcast a professional presence it owns outright, discoverable on its own terms instead of renting an audience from a platform.
